Investment in Guadalajara’s airport will provide capacity for more than 40 million passengers.

Airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) says building a second runway is urgent, as the number of passengers using the airport is growing each year at about 8-10%. The airport currently handles about 13 million passengers a year and expects another million to pass through the facility by the end of this year.

The expansion project is budgeted at US $214 million. Currently, a dispute with nearby landowners is holding up the second runway project. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2022, however, land negotiations could cause delays.
